New York Toy Fair 2016

posted Feb 24, 2016, 1:57 PM by Evan De Mott   [ updated Feb 25, 2016, 1:59 PM ]

We had a great show at the New York Toy Fair last week!

As always, it's great to see our manufacturers' amazing products, and we enjoyed getting to visit with our customers. Emojis were clearly a popular new item at the show - we loved Fun 2 Play's emoji blind packs and Funko's emoji blind packs that include licensed characters to follow 2016 movies like TMNT and come with a download for licensed emojis to your phone's keyboard! Another fun new product to follow was the Sun Catcher from Explore Scientific - on August 21, 2017 we will experience a once in a lifetime total solar eclipse and everyone will need protective viewing lenses like the Sun Catcher! Click Here to check out the images for these products and more from Toy Fair NY16.

Convenience Store Growth

posted Jan 29, 2016, 9:16 AM by Evan De Mott

We wanted to share this great article from NACS Online explaining the growth we find in convenience stores:

U.S. CONVENIENCE STORES CONTINUE GROWTH

Convenience stores account for 34.2% of all outlets in the United States, significantly higher than other retail channels.
January 28, 2016

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The U.S. convenience store count increased to 154,195 stores as of December 31, 2015, a 0.9% increase (1,401 stores) from the year prior, according to the 2016 NACS/Nielsen Convenience Industry Store Count [INFOGRAPHIC].

Within the retail universe that Nielsen tracks, convenience stores account for 34.2% of all outlets in the United States, which is significantly higher than the U.S. total of other retail channels, including superettes, supermarket and supercenters (51,055 stores), drug stores (41,969 stores) and dollar stores (27,378 stores).

Overall, 80.7% of convenience stores (124,374) sell motor fuels.

"Our continued growth shows that our industry’s core offer of convenience resonates with time-starved customers, whether they are searching for a fuel fill-up, a quick and healthy snack, a refreshing drink or for fill-in groceries or take-out meals,” said NACS Chairman Jack Kofdarali, president of Corona, California-based J&T Management Inc.

The convenience retailing industry continues to be dominated by single-store operators, which account for 63.1% of all convenience stores (97,359 stores total) and 74.3% of store growth in 2015.

The industry has roughly doubled in size over the last three decades. At year-end 1985, the convenience store count was 90,900 stores; at year-end 1995 the store count was 101,100 stores; and at year-end 2005 the store count was 140,655 stores.

Among the states, Texas continues to lead in store count with 15,607 stores. The rest of the top 10 states for convenience stores are California (11,540), Florida (9,909), New York (8,446), Georgia (6,765), North Carolina (6,330), Ohio (5,605), Michigan, (4,880), Illinois (4,732) and Pennsylvania (4,706), the same top 10 as 2015. All states experienced year-over-year increases with the exception of Georgia (-1 store) and Michigan (-27 stores).

The bottom three states in terms of store count are Alaska (206 stores), Wyoming (357) and Delaware (350).

We want to thank you for taking the time to stop by our exhibit at NACS 2015 in Vegas last week. Your interest in our manufacturers’ lines and programs is greatly appreciated.

As you saw we have lots of great opportunity with Entertainment and Sports Licensed and Branded Toys, Novelties as well as Fashion Accessories. Many of our lines have product that follows the New Movies and the Holiday selling events throughout the year. We will be putting together a Merchandise Calendar for 2016 that will show you how our products can help you increase your Impulse Toy and Novelty Sales throughout the year in your stores. It will include Movie Release dates with line and item listings and all lead times so you can plan to order products you want to carry and get them in time for the release of the movie or for the event or holiday etc. We will be getting you this by email in the near future.

While some notes were made on the items you were interested in at the time your badge was scanned at NACS we may not have the complete list of the items you want information on. So could you please contact me to let us know from the list of Manufacturers displayed at the show what Manufacturers you want info on?

We will be following up with you by email and phone to answer your questions and help you put together a 2016 merchandise program for our products that will fit your needs. In the meantime, should you have any questions please feel free to call us. Thanks again for your interest in our items. We look forward to working with you to make 2016 Your Best Year yet in our General Merchandise categories.
